In Paris alone, the figures are impressive: in 2018, there were 1,192 congresses organized (nearly 50% of which had an international dimension), bringing together more than 880,000 delegates. The economic benefits are estimated at 1.34 billion euros and the congresses represent 2.17 million overnight stays in hotels! The medical sciences are the most represented, with 440 congresses dedicated to this sector. These excellent figures allow Paris to rank as the world’s leading convention city, even though the United States continues to dominate the ranking by country according to the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).
In order to better organize their event flow, more and more conventions are using groups and events management tools such as Lab Event.
On three occasions, in 1900 in Paris, in 1920 in Strasbourg and in 1970 in Nice, France has organized the International Congress of Mathematicians, during which the prestigious Fields Medal is awarded for work and discoveries in this field.
The role of an event agency is essential when organizing a congress. Indeed, an agency can be solicited throughout the event in order to actively participate in its organization, to find a room, a caterer, to organize a closing cocktail, etc. Agencies therefore have a key role to play in these events and it is often an opportunity for them to assert their position and their place in a very competitive market.
